Captain Crews at a glance

The information journalists need, on one page. Everything on it may be quoted freely.

Captain Crews is a management platform for companies that maintain, manage or rent out a fleet of boats.

It brings unit records, the workshop, documents and their expiry dates, scheduling, crew time tracking and the owner portal together in one place. It is built in Mauritius by a marine workshop that works in warm waters.

Who is behind Captain Crews

  • Publisher: Assistance Nautic Ltd, a company incorporated in Mauritius — Avenue Shebeck, Albion 91001, Mauritius (BRN C18153647).
  • Founder: Anthony Spanu. A marine mechanic from the age of fifteen and a yacht captain for six years, he has spent more than twenty years in the marine industry. Based in Mauritius, he set up a marine mechanics and boat management company there, then built Captain Crews.
  • A tool used by its own workshop: the Assistance Nautic workshop uses Captain Crews every day, on the boats it looks after.
“Captain Crews wasn't born from a business plan or a marketing study. […] It's the software I wish I'd had throughout my career.”
— Anthony Spanu, founder

What Captain Crews does

  1. A complete record for every unit. Identity, dimensions, engines, equipment, photos and history, with a PDF spec sheet. Land vehicles can be tracked alongside the boats, as an option.
  2. Documents and expiry dates. Insurance, certificates, inspections: each document carries its expiry date, the team is notified before it lapses, and a "Deadlines" screen sorts everything by urgency. A safety equipment register tracks each item (location, serial number, expiry date).
  3. The workshop. Work orders with checklists, recurring job templates that repeat automatically (weekly, monthly, yearly), engine hour readings and an alert when a service threshold is near.
  4. Scheduling and bookings. A fleet-wide schedule, availability search, and booking requests to approve for organisations that work by department. An overlap is flagged; companies that work by department can choose to block it.
  5. Crew time tracking. Clock-in from the phone, with the location recorded at each clock-in, leave management and an Excel export of hours. Captain Crews does not calculate salaries: it hands the hours to the accountant.
  6. The owner portal. Owners see their units, approved work, invoices and the documents shared with them. They can request a job, which the company accepts or reschedules.
  7. Invoices and fuel read by AI. A photographed invoice or receipt is read automatically (supplier, amounts, VAT, category, litres), and everything stays editable. Receipts uploaded by the crew, or flagged by a check (duplicate, calculation), stay "to be checked" until another person reviews them.
  8. An AI assistant, included. Ask it a question, typed or, in most browsers, spoken ("when was this boat's last oil change?"), and it finds the answer. It looks things up; it changes nothing. It is included for every company, with 50 questions per month per company.

Who it is for

  • marine maintenance workshops and boatyards;
  • yacht and boat management companies;
  • boat rental companies, and vehicle rental as an option;
  • organisations that share a fleet across several departments;
  • owners who entrust their boat to a company, and their crews.

Languages

  • App: English, French and Spanish (Argentine Spanish). Each person picks their own language; screens, notifications, PDFs and exports exist in all three. Text typed by the team can be translated automatically between these three languages.
  • Website: English, French and Spanish.
  • Support: in English, French and Spanish, Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 9 pm Mauritius time (UTC+4), by phone on +230 5491 0606 or by email at info@captaincrews.com. Every request is picked up within 24 business hours.

Access and devices

Captain Crews is a web app, installable on iPhone and Android from the browser: it then opens like an app, from the home screen. Nothing to download from an app marketplace. It also works on a computer.

Hosting and data

  • Hosting: London (Vercel for the application, Neon for the database).
  • Backups: the database is backed up every evening; the copy is checked (readable and complete), encrypted, stored with two separate services, then read back from each of them. Files are copied three times a day.
  • Artificial intelligence: AI processing is handled by US subprocessors: Anthropic for invoice reading, the assistant and translation; ElevenLabs for the assistant's voice, only when it is switched on. For onboard documents read by the AI (insurance, certificates…), nothing is saved until a person has approved it.
  • Accounts: fingerprint sign-in (passkeys) available to everyone; two-factor authentication for administrators and owners.
  • Currencies: each company works in its own currency, for example the euro, the US dollar, the UAE dirham or the Argentine peso.

Pricing

From €5 (or $5) per user per month. These are launch prices: any subscription taken out before 1 January 2027 keeps its price for life. The three plans are detailed on the Pricing page.

What Captain Crews does not do

To be precise: Captain Crews does not do accounting, salary calculation or customer invoicing, and it does not offer online booking open to the public. The app needs an internet connection.
